Our Curriculum
We prioritise sports and activities which enable pupils to learn essential subject-specific knowledge to meet our clearly defined end points of the curriculum. Our curriculum sets out the knowledge to be taught clearly and precisely, and this knowledge is sequenced carefully to give pupils opportunities to revisit and secure prior learning.
Every week, pupils have two hours of PE learning, and this is supplemented by other regular physical activities, such as the daily mile and days of environment-led learning.
Every year, the pupils will receive two terms of teaching in both dance and gymnastics, as these areas provide pupils with key learning and skills in motor competence: movement, agility and coordination.
In addition to this, pupils have at least two terms of teaching in games or multi-skills where the key learning and skills in rules, strategies and tactics can be taught and practiced.
Every other year, pupils cover athletics and in key stage two, circuit training and outdoor and/or adventurous activities are taught.
All PE learning covers skills in collaboration, communication, performance, evaluation and health and fitness.
Teachers will teach the key vocabulary throughout a unit of work and also model effective practice to develop pupils skills.
